MedCarnet privacy policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026. This policy covers version 1 of MedCarnet for iPhone and Android.
In short
MedCarnet has no account and no server. Your data stays on your phone, encrypted. We collect no data: nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. No ads, no tracking, no analytics, no crash reports.
Who is responsible
The operator of this app:
OCTAWAY, SAS with a share capital of €5,000, RCS Créteil 106 512 452
14 avenue du Général de Gaulle, 94160 Saint-Mandé, France
contact@octaway.fr
Your data never reaches it.
What is stored
The health data you enter: profiles, medicines, doses, stock, prescriptions, care plans (follow-ups) and appointments, medical information (conditions, blood type, allergies), your doctors, emergency contacts, trips and your documents (scans, photos, PDFs), and your settings. If you pair an Apple Watch, a copy of today's doses, appointments and the emergency card of the profile on screen is sent to it over Apple's encrypted phone–watch link; you can turn this off in Settings.
It is stored only on this phone (and, for the copy described above, on a paired Apple Watch), encrypted with a key kept in the phone's secure storage. You type your medicines in yourself: the app looks nothing up online.
Nothing is sent to us
This version of the app has no account and no server: your data is never sent to us or to anyone else. No tracking, no analytics, no crash reports, no ads.
Your data leaves the phone only when you export or share it yourself, or when you open a doctor's address in your maps app, or, if you pair an Apple Watch, when a copy is sent to it over Apple's encrypted phone–watch link (you can turn this off in Settings):
- Export (Settings → Your data → Export from this phone): a ZIP file with your records and documents, which you send where you choose with the phone's share menu. The file is not encrypted: keep it somewhere safe.
- Emergency card: you can print it or share it as a PDF.
- Documents: you can share a document.
- Calls: from the emergency card, a contact is called through the Phone app.
What you share this way is then covered by the rules of the app or service you chose.
Notifications
Reminders are created on the phone; they go through no server. By default they show the medicine's name, including on the lock screen. You can hide names in Settings.
Emergency card and widget
If you turn on the emergency card widget, anyone holding your phone can open the card, even when the app is locked. The app reminds you of this before you turn it on. You can turn the widget off at any time.
Permissions
- Notifications: your dose, stock, prescription and appointment reminders.
- Exact alarms (Android): so reminders arrive on time.
- Camera: to scan your health documents.
- Photos: to add a document from your photos.
- Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint: the app lock, if you turn it on. The phone does the recognition; the app receives no biometric data.
The app does not access your location, your contacts, Apple Health or Health Connect.
Backups and changing phones
Your health data and documents are excluded from phone backups, on iPhone (iCloud or computer) as on Android, and from transfers to a new phone. The encryption key also stays on this phone. So MedCarnet's data can't be moved to another phone through a backup: to keep a copy, use the export (Settings → Your data → Export from this phone).
How long
Until you delete it: in Settings → Your data → Delete all data on this phone, or by uninstalling the app.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and erase your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to portability. As your data stays on your phone, you exercise them in the app: correct it at any time, export it or delete it in Settings → Your data. For any question, write to the operator at the address above. You can lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), the French data protection authority.
Children and relatives
A parent or caregiver can create a profile for a child or a relative on their own phone. That data stays on that phone, like the rest.
No medical advice
MedCarnet does not give medical advice: follow your doctor and pharmacist. MedCarnet is not a medical device.
Changes
If a later version offers an account or an online backup, it will be optional: this page will be updated and the app will tell you before anything is sent.
